Key Points

  • Gemini AI now integrated into Chrome for U.S. desktop users, with iOS support coming soon.
  • Judge ruled Google can keep Chrome and Android but must loosen contracts to boost competition.
  • New features will include task automation, multi-site summaries, and deeper links to YouTube, Maps, and Calendar.

Google is rolling out its Gemini AI directly into the Chrome browser, just weeks after avoiding a forced breakup in an antitrust case. Starting Thursday, U.S. desktop users with Chrome set to English can access Gemini, with business and mobile integration arriving in the coming weeks.

The move deepens Gemini’s role across Google apps and services. Future updates promise agent-like abilities such as automating multi-step tasks, revisiting past pages, and summarizing content across multiple websites. This push is aimed at countering rivals like Perplexity, which recently made headlines with a multibillion-dollar offer for Chrome.

Earlier this month, a judge allowed Google to retain control of Chrome and Android while banning certain exclusive deals. The ruling lets Google continue payments to partners, including Apple, to maintain its search dominance. Reports also suggest Apple is exploring Gemini to power a revamped Siri.
