Spotify’s annual Loud and Clear Report reveals that nearly 1,500 artists each received at least $1 million in royalties from 2024 streams. Remarkably, more than 80% of these artists did not have a single track appear in the platform’s Global Daily Top 50 chart, showing that significant earnings aren’t limited to chart-toppers.
To reach the $1 million threshold, artists typically need around 4 to 5 million monthly listeners, or roughly 20 to 25 million streams per month. The report also noted a staggering 600% increase in the number of artists earning over $10 million compared to 2017. Overall, Spotify disbursed a record $10 billion in royalties last year—far surpassing the royalty contributions of traditional record retailers during the CD era.
This milestone underscores how Spotify’s streaming model is reshaping the music industry by leveling the playing field for artists at every stage of their careers. By basing payments on stream share rather than a per-stream rate, the platform continues to empower both emerging talents and established acts to earn significant revenue from their music.
