Pepsi’s latest campaign, “Undercover Cups,” brings its rivalry with Coca-Cola to a new level. In a series of videos, Pepsi agents surprise customers at major burger chains like McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s—all known Coke partners—by replacing their drinks with Pepsi. The playful stunt, which riffs on “undercover cops,” is designed to highlight Pepsi as the ultimate pairing for burgers and is running across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X, and TikTok.
In these clips, Pepsi agents walk into fast-food locations, swapping out soft drinks for Pepsi while capturing diners’ surprised and sometimes amused reactions. The campaign follows a recent “Pepsi Chase Cars” promotion, where agents added Pepsi to pizza deliveries, reinforcing the brand’s goal to pair Pepsi with popular comfort foods. BBDO, Pepsi’s creative partner, crafted the campaign, adding unique brand touches—like Wendy’s red-headed mascot with Pepsi-blue hair.
Launched just before National Fast-Food Day, “Undercover Cups” is part of Pepsi’s broader “Food Deserves Pepsi” platform, which promotes Pepsi as the ideal drink with meals like burgers and pizza. Pepsi hopes that the campaign’s fun, candid approach will go viral, helping the brand regain market share after Dr Pepper recently overtook it as the No. 2 soda in the U.S.
