Chipotle Mexican Grill is officially bringing its signature burritos and bowls to Mexico. The U.S.-based fast-casual chain announced today that it has signed a development agreement with Alsea S.A.B. de C.V., a leading restaurant operator across Latin America and Europe, to open its first location in Mexico by early 2026. The move marks a major milestone for Chipotle as it taps into a market already deeply familiar with the ingredients that built its brand.
Executives from both companies expressed confidence in the new venture, highlighting Mexico’s strong cultural ties to Chipotle’s core menu and fresh-food appeal. Under the agreement, Alsea will lead expansion efforts beyond the first location, tapping into major metropolitan markets across the country.
This partnership follows Chipotle’s broader international growth strategy, which has seen the brand expand into the Middle East, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and more. Chipotle currently operates over 3,700 restaurants worldwide and plans to open between 315 and 345 new restaurants in the U.S. and Canada this year alone, with a long-term goal of reaching 7,000 locations.
