BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF Logs Record Single-Day Outflow of 5,002 BTC
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) offloaded 5,002 Bitcoins worth $418 million on February 26, the ETF’s biggest one-day sell-off to date. According to web3 data firm Sosovalue, overall U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs incurred $754 million in net outflows that day—a surge in negativity that stretched across the industry. Even with the massive liquidation, IBIT retains its position as the largest U.S. Bitcoin ETF by assets under management, topping $48.33 billion.
Fidelity’s FBTC registered the second-highest single-day sell-off at $145.69 million, followed by Ark & 21Shares (ARKB), Grayscale, and other ETFs contributing to the exodus. The move reverberated in the spot market: Bitcoin’s price fell below $90,000 for the first time since November, dipping to around $85,779—a 3.3% 24-hour drop and 11.69% decline over seven days. Meanwhile, Ethereum ETFs also posted a five-day streak of outflows, collectively losing $94.27 million.
This coordinated retreat suggests a shift in investor sentiment as traders brace for interest rate uncertainties and possible macroeconomic headwinds. Despite these outflows, the aggregate market share of U.S. Bitcoin ETFs remains considerable, holding about $95.16 billion in net assets—5.69% of Bitcoin’s total market cap. Industry watchers will be eyeing whether additional withdrawals continue to pressure crypto prices in the near term.
