Tesla App Updates: Top Features We Hope to See This Holiday

Written by Hamoun Ani, Creative Director at Brand Vision.

Tesla's annual holiday software updates are highly anticipated by owners eager for new features and enhancements. As the 2024 holiday season approaches, several potential updates to the Tesla app could significantly improve user experience.

Apple Watch Integration

A dedicated Apple Watch app would allow users to monitor vehicle status, control climate settings, and manage charging directly from their wrist. This integration would offer convenience, especially in situations where accessing a smartphone is impractical.

Forgotten Phone Alerts

It's common to leave a phone in the car, particularly when it's on the charging dock. Implementing an alert system that notifies users when their phone is left behind would be beneficial. This feature could differentiate between driver and passenger phones, reducing the risk of leaving a primary device in the vehicle.

Live Activities Support

With iOS 16.1 introducing Live Activities, Tesla could utilize this feature to provide real-time updates on Supercharging sessions or Sentry Mode events. Persistent notifications on the lock screen would keep users informed without needing to open the app.

Arrival State of Charge Planning

Allowing users to set a desired battery charge percentage upon arrival at a destination would enhance trip planning. This feature would be particularly useful when traveling to areas with limited charging infrastructure, ensuring sufficient charge upon arrival.

Trip question. What happens when I arrive? Is car planning for low battery at destination and me making it to charging before battery goes to 0%??? There's no charging at the destination. :

Enhanced Light Show Controls

Tesla's light shows are a popular feature. Adding the ability to start, schedule, or stop a light show from the app would provide greater flexibility. Additionally, enabling users to create custom light shows directly within the app would make this feature more accessible.

Battery Preconditioning for Third-Party Chargers

Introducing a battery preconditioning button in the app would prepare the vehicle for optimal charging performance at third-party DC fast chargers. This feature would be especially beneficial for users without home charging options.

Expanded Garage Door Controls

For users with multiple garage doors programmed through HomeLink, the app could offer the ability to select which door to operate. This enhancement would provide more precise control, particularly when managing multiple entry points.

These potential updates reflect Tesla's commitment to enhancing user experience through thoughtful software improvements. As the holiday season approaches, owners are hopeful that some of these features will be included in the upcoming update.
