Conor McGregor’s whiskey and stout brands are being pulled from stores across Ireland and the UK. Major retailers like Tesco, SuperValu, and Centra have decided to stop selling Proper No. Twelve whiskey and Forged Irish Stout, affecting nearly 1,000 locations. Proximo Spirits, the company that owns Proper No. Twelve, announced they will no longer use McGregor’s name or image to promote the brand.
This backlash comes after a High Court jury found McGregor liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel in 2018. Hand testified that McGregor attacked her in a penthouse suite, an encounter she described as terrifying and violent. She was given €248,603 in damages. McGregor has denied the allegations and plans to appeal.
Calls for businesses to distance themselves from McGregor began shortly after the court’s decision. Advocacy groups urged retailers to reconsider stocking products linked to him, and the response has been swift. Even the video game company IO Interactive, known for the "Hitman" series, said it would remove McGregor-themed content. The case has sparked discussions about accountability for public figures and the influence of consumer values on corporate decisions.
